Foundation of Discipleship 7 of 9

There are 9 parts to the foundation. Love, Faith, God’s Word, Prayer, Worship, Trust, Study, Action, and at the center is Jesus. Without the center, anything you would build on it would collapse in on itself. There are 4 corner stones that make it possible to build on and 4 side stones helping complete the foundation. All of these you must have, in order to be a successful disciple. The foundation looks like this:

God’s Word

Worship is the third support stone. Worship is one of the easiest stones to come to us. It is easy to sing songs and feel appreciation for what we have in our lives. Worship comes out from our Love and Faith in God.

Psalm 29:2

Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness.

Psalm 100:2

Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.

Matthew 15:7-9

7 You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you:

8 “‘These people honor me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me.
9 They worship me in vain;
their teachings are merely human rules.

Worship starts with our feeling of love, and desire to express that to our God. One of our biggest mistakes when it comes to worship is to think worship is just the songs we sing in church every Sunday. Worship is not just singing a song, it is our showing affection to God. This doesn’t have to be just Sunday, or at church. You can worship God any time any where.

So how do we show our affection? Yes we do sing songs, but we have to watch out for just singing the words, for if we don’t mean them, then we are saying them in vain. This is, what I consider, the same as taking the Lords name in vain. I’m not talking about studying every song before you sing it. I’m talking about being in the right frame of mind, and truly wanting to worship God, however you can. We also worship God by simply doing what God has told us to do. We honor God by keeping his commandments. When we love someone, we don’t just show it one day a week, or in just one way. We show them our love in many ways every day of the week. If not, they won’t stay around too long. Fortunately, God is faithful, even when we are not. We also can show our love for God by sharing it. When we love God so much, we can’t keep it to ourselves. Show others how great it is to have a God that loves us so much.

Worship can’t be faked, it can’t be supplemented with something else, and it can’t be ignored. We have to humble ourselves, which if we truly allow ourselves to feel God’s love, will not be a problem.
